10 Great Players Who Were Ruined By Newcastle United

2. Davide Santon

Davide Santon was described by former Italy manager Marcelo Lippi as a young Paolo Maldini and after 40 games for Inter Milan the player was one of the hottest defensive prospects in Seria A. The player signed for Newcastle United on a five-year contract in 2011, for an undisclosed fee and instantly struck a chord with the Toon Army for his confident attacking performances and upbeat personality. But, Santon fell victim to the curse of St James Park and despite playing for Italy the defender wasn't trusted to start for Alan Pardew's Newcastle United and he quickly became disillusioned at the club. He returned to Inter in the 2015 January transfer window on loan, with an obligation to buy in the summer. The loan was made permanent after Santon's contract at Newcastle was terminated.
