10 Great Players Who Were Ruined By Newcastle United
7. Patrick Kluivert
90 goals in 182 appearances for Barcelona. Patrick Kluivert was quite simply a living legend. Somehow, Kluivert joined Newcastle United on 21 July 2004 to team up with Alan Shearer. He stated that his reason for joining was due to the overwhelming reaction he received whilst playing for Barcelona against Newcastle during a pre season friendly. However, Newcastle decided not to take up the second year on his contract and the striker who scored 40 goals in 79 games left St James' Park with a whimper, scoring just six goals in 25 appearances. Kluivert never rekindled his form and after unsuccessful spells at Valencia and Lille he decided to retire in 2008.
