Battiston was through one on one with German Harald Schumacher, he took a shot that missed, but the 'keeper inexplicably jumped bottom first into the Frenchman's face.
He was knocked unconscious, damaged his vertebrae and had teeth knocked out. He also slipped into a coma at one point. Incredibly, Dutch referee Charles Corver didn't even give a foul.
