10 Idiotic Decisions Made By Former Newcastle Players

8. Charles N'Zogbia Went Looking For Champions League Football... At Wigan

Despite being a fan favourite for a while at Newcastle, Charles N'Zogbia's profile took a couple of serious dints towards the end of his time on Tyneside. First, he fell out with Andy Carroll, earning himself a sore face from the notoriously quick to violence striker and then Joe Kinnear "hilariously" came out and called him Charles Insomnia, earning accusations of disrespect and an almighty grump from the player who demanded to leave. In fact, the Frenchman had wanted to leave the club already, and his lack of first-team opportunities was just the catalyst he needed in 2008 to say, rather self-servingly, that his sights were set on a bigger club and a bigger stage for his talents. With Arsenal and PSG linked, he told L'Equipe: "After four years at Newcastle, I want to reach a higher level of ambition. I don't think that is possible here. I have given my all to the club, and I will go on to do so as long as I play. But I would like to reach a new level by finding a new challenge at a new side." N'Zogbia flirted outrageously with Arsenal in the hope of making a move to a Champions League side, and then hilariously ended up at Wigan, where he impressed, but not while playing at the "higher level" club he so openly craved.
