9 Incredible Football Stadiums That Are Being Built
4. Estadio La Peineta
Officially known as Estadio Olimpico de Madrid, the stadium is set to be the home of Atletico Madrid from 2017. As Diego Simeone's men continue to impress on the pitch and challenge regularly both domestically and in European competitions, the club's owners believe now is the time to move away from Estadio Vicente Calderon, which doesn't offer any chance of extension. Their new home - although primarily for footballing use - will host athletics events and was part of Madrid's plans for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic games. Positioned just over eight kilometres away from the city centre, the stadium was originally set for completion in 2015, before delays pushed this back to 2017. Even this date isn't set in stone, though, with ongoing legal proceedings threatening to cause further delays.
