10 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux

10. Sara McMann Needs To Work On Her Overall Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AooBq4xo_64 She's an excellent wrestler (clearly, since she won an Olympic medal), but the flaws in Sara McMann's game are more apparent than ever after UFC Fight Night 47. Although she picked up a split decision win last night, her wrestling wasn't enough to dominate Lauren Murphy, and by the end of the fight, struggling to achieve takedowns and maintain control, she was eating vicious elbows and looking like she was completely out of place, simply hanging on to the leg of Murphy for dear life. That's now how you expect a former title challenger to fight, and the bottom line (even pointed out by the announce team live) is that McMann has to work on her transitions and mixing disciplines. It's either wrestling or striking with her, and transitioning from one to another seems difficult. That simply won't work at the top level of MMA these days. You need to be well rounded in all disciplines, and you need to be able to transition seamlessly between them. If she's ever to get another shot at Rousey, it's something she must improve.
