10 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Dos Anjos

6. Francis Carmont Was Way Over-hyped

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsJTSeJpxiE Even in the build up to last night's Carmont vs. Leites bout, you heard the UFC's broadcast team talk about how Carmont trained at TriStar with GSP, and how he was dominating guys in the gym. If your selling point is that you're great in training, you're doing something wrong. Look, Carmont is a top fighter, but dominating someone in training is meaningless since fighters don't fight all-out in training. They hold back, so as not to wear themselves out, injure themselves, or injure a training partner. It's a worthless distinction and one the UFC tried to use to sell the Cormier vs. Cummins bout as well. The worst part is that up until this year, Carmont was seen as a possible title contender despite having only one or two notable wins on his record. There's a good chance Carmont is sent packing after this fight as he has now lost three straight fights in the UFC, all in the calendar year. As a top ten welterweight (arguably) he'd be a great pick-up for Bellator or the WSOF and it wouldn't be surprising to see him there in just a couple of month's time.
