10 Man City Players Who Should Fear For Their Future
10. Yaya Toure
''Yaya is so upset hes thinking of leaving City. There are a number of things that have happened that have left Yaya feeling bitterly upset. City have treated him with disrespect and have really hurt him. I dont expect City to present Yaya with a Bugatti, we only asked that they shook his hand and said we congratulate you. It is the minimum they must do when it is his birthday and the squad is all-together. - Yaya Toures agent, Dimitry Seluk, May 2014.
All this nonsense about birthday cakes, disrespect and exit threats could easily have been put to bed by the man himself, but instead, Man City vice-captain Yaya Toure endorsed his agents comments before offering a weak public commitment to the club over two months later. Instead of putting his petulant and embarrassing antics behind him with a series of lung-busting displays for the Citizens this season, he has given his critics further ammunition by displaying a series of apathetic, lazy and disinterested performances for the club. Last season, he was a phenomenon, scoring 20 league goals from midfield as the club romped to Premier League glory. Whatever is currently occupying his position this campaign is a pale imitator. The goal threat has been replaced by an air of apathy, and while he was one of the catalysts behind the clubs success last season, similarly he is one of the prime culprits for their six-month title win hangover. Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini has recently reaffirmed his desire to keep the Ivorian international but should the team keep turning out such insipid performances, it may not be his decision to make come the summer.
