10 Man City Players Who Should Fear For Their Future
9. Edin Dzeko
Bosnian international Edin Dzeko has scored 70 goals for the club since arriving from Wolfsburg in the winter transfer window of 2010, and his 16 league goals were key to the clubs league title success last season. Despite faced with strict competition for places during his time in Manchester, with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Alvaro Negredo having come and gone, Dzeko has managed to bag over 15 goals in all competitions during each of his last three seasons in England. However, this season he looks a shadow of the man who bagged 26 strikes in all competitions last term. He has found the back of the net on just two occasions in the Premier League so far, and with Stevan Jovetic struggling for goals, Manuel Pellegrini will be feeling let down - especially considering the enormous vote of confidence he was placing in his strikers by sending Negredo back to Spain without bringing in a replacement. There is no question that it would be a big call to dispense with a striker with such a proven strike record, but if Dzeko keeps up this poor form at City, the club may be forced to dip into the market for a proven world-class marksman to compliment Sergio Aguero up front. And as has been well-documented, Edin does not appreciate the prospect of being a super-sub.
''I will never be a super-sub. I want to play. - Edin Dzeko, October 2012.
