10 Memorable Arsenal Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

2. Ray Parlour vs Chelsea - May 2002

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agIz5943ZZ4 In most expansive, attacking teams, there needs to be a grafter - the player who isn't afraid to dig in and do the dirty work, sacrificing his own play at times in order to benefit the team. This was Ray Parlour to a tee. It might seem strange to include a player in this list who lasted 12 years at the club and made nearly 400 appearances for the club, but there was a reason why Parlour never added to his ten England caps. An industrial and hard-working player, Parlour was undoubtedly a crucial player for Arsene Wenger and a great servant, but as far as natural talent and all-round ability go, he wasn't even in the same league as some of his colleagues at Highbury. A cult hero at Arsenal, the moment he is remembered most fondly for was exquisite goal fired into the top corner of the net at the Millenium Stadium in the 2002 FA Cup final. The opponents were Chelsea and Arsenal were gunning for the double. Unable to break down a tough Chelsea rear-guard, Parlour received the ball 30 yards from goal. Advancing and weighing up his options, Parlour had found himself in the unusual position of being the furthest man forward for the Gunners when he made up his mind to cut inside and unleash a powerful drive that Carlo Cudicini could only tip into the top corner of the net. It was a champagne moment for the industrial midfielder who was never really much of a goal-scoring dynamo. The job was completed for the Gunners when Freddie Ljungberg curled home a sumptuous second with ten minutes remaining.
