5. Gordon Strachan
Played with Alex Ferguson at both Aberdeen and Manchester United, and has become one of many former players under Fergie who have gone on to become successful managers. As a player, he won the European Cup winners Cup and Super Cup at Aberdeen, and won the English League with Leeds Utd. His first managerial job was with Coventry, and after that moved on to Southampton, and he is the only manager to take Celtic past the group stages of the Champions League. Intelligent and witty, Strachan is many pundits favourite to get the job. 6. Lothar Matthaus
Scotland had a bad experience with their only previous foreign manager, and he was German too - Bertie Vogts had some of the worst results in Scotlands' history (2-2 with Faroes springs to mind). Hopefully this won't harm any chances Matthaus has of landing the post. He holds the record for most World Cup Finals appearances as a player (25), is Germanys' most capped played with 150 caps, and has managed both clubs and national teams already (both Hungary and Bulgaria) so he is well used to adapting to new cultures.
