7. Alex McLeish
The second on this list who has previously had the job. McLeish was a team-mate of Strachan at Aberdeen, and like Strachan, was greatly influenced by Alex Ferguson. Capped 77 times for Scotland, he was a composed figure at the centre of defence, and played nearly 500 times for Aberdeen. He started his managerial career at Motherwell, moved to Hibs and then Rangers, and then took the Scotland job in 2007 after Smith's departure, and was unlucky not to qualify for the 2008 European Championships; the highlight of his tenure a 1-0 win away to France. After leaving the Scotland job, managed both Birmingham City and Aston Villa, but couldn't create the same success he had north of the border.
8. Billy Stark
Current Scotland Under 21s boss, but he took charge of the full team for last month's friendly against Luxembourg, and managed a 2-1 win. His playing career was strictly north of the border, and so far, his managerial career has mirrored that. Stark hasn't managed in the top division in Scotland, but in the lower divisions he had some notable results, most prominent when his amateur Queen's Park side beat Premier League Aberdeen in the Cup. He has been working with the SFA since 2008, with youth development, and is highly thought of within the Scottish game.
