10 Most Shocking Red Cards In Premier League History

2. Roy Keane - April 21, 2001

A list of the most memorable sending offs wouldn't be complete without a mention for the Manchester United legend. He certainly wasn't one to pull out of a challenge and too often left too much of a mark on a game. He also had a good memory, targeting who he had a falling out with four years earlier. During the Norwegian's Leeds career, Keane had apparently been disgusted when Haaland accused him of feigning an injury and had set his sights on revenge. That moment arrived when Haaland, who had completed a move to United's bitter rivals, lined up against Keane in the Manchester derby. With the game in the closing stages, Keane seized upon an opportunity to leave his mark on the City midfielder, raking his studs firmly across his opponent's knee. Keane was subsequently shown a straight red, but it was the comments regarding his intent that were published in his autobiography that landed the Red Devils' captain in hot water with the FA. A five-match ban and £150,000 fine swiftly made their way to him.
