Back in 1992, the Premier League would see one of its first big money moves, one which caught many off guard and would go on to shape the initial few years of the new division.

When Eric Cantona moved to Man United from Leeds for what now looks like a paltry £1.2m, few would have known the impact it would have. The surprise in the move came as Leeds were not known for selling their best players, and Cantona had just played a key role in the club winning the First Division Championship title before the switch over to the Premier League in 1992.

However, the move was completed, much to the dismay of manager Howard Wilkinson and Leeds United fans.

The magnitude of this move cannot be understated, as Man United under Alex Ferguson would go on to wrap up the first two Premier League titles, before adding two more after Blackburn had snatched it away from them, all with Cantona as the main man.

Often shrouded in controversy - his kung fu kick on a fan springs to mind - the enigmatic Frenchman was the key player as United dominated. One can only guess what might have been had Leeds United stood firm and kept hold of their star man.
