10 Newcastle Players Who Became Legends In One Moment

7. Temuri Ketsbaia's Radge

In the grand scheme of things, Temuri Ketsbaia shouldn't have been a particularly memorable Newcastle player: he signed on a Bosman in 1997, played 78 times for the club and scored just 8 times in black and white. He was in and out of the starting line-up, and did very little in general play that would make him stand-out over any other players who took to the St. James' Park pitch in that disappointing era. But if there's one thing Newcastle fans love beyond anything else, it's passion. Players can be mostly ineffectual for 10 games, but if they talk to the papers sincerely and say they're frustrated that they can't give the Newcastle fans what they really crave, all is forgiven. That's why Alan Pardew's false sincerity trying to calm the fans he has called hysterical, over-expectant and irresponsible will never ring true. Ketsbaia will forever be remembered as a cult hero for one moment above all: frustrated at not starting a game against Bolton, he scored and duly went mental, kicking the advertising hoardings, removing his shirt and attempting to throw his boot away. Fans loved it, even if it probably wasn't great for his blood pressure.
