10 Newcastle Players Who Could Be Revitalised By Steve McClaren
5. Haris Vuckic
The Magpies could not find a place in their depleted squad for Haris Vuckic last season - yet the attacking-midfielder produced some promising moments after joining Rangers on loan at the beginning of February, albeit in the Scottish Championship. Vuckic was reasonably impressive throughout his time in Scotland, with the 22-year-old Slovenian international scoring nine goals and contributing three assists in 20 matches from attacking-midfield for Rangers after moving on transfer deadline day in January. Thankfully, it appears as if the Slovenian has looked upon McClaren's arrival as a fresh start on Tyneside - and he said in an interview last week that he wants to be given a "chance" to prove himself under the ex-England boss and be able to begin from "scratch" at Newcastle. There's no doubting Vuckic has ability - the 6ft 2in midfielder is powerful, has a wicked shot and can pick out a pass - but he is yet to prove he can utilise that on a regular basis in the Premier League. Coached correctly by McClaren's exciting backroom contingent and Vuckic could become the player everyone thought he was going to be when he was linked with the likes of AC Milan a few years ago. Newcastle are crying out for an attacking-midfielder who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and take control of it for the Magpies - and a reinvigorated Vuckic could be just that player.
