10 Newcastle Players Who Could Be Revitalised By Steve McClaren
4. Remy Cabella
Costing somewhere in the region of £12 million last summer, Remy Cabella was supposed to be the player who would spark the Magpies into life and really make them tick in attack. Yet, for a variety of reasons - including the fact he was largely played out of position on the wing far too often - it simply didn't happen for Cabella during his first 12 months on Tyneside, and he contributed just one goal and three assists all season. Unfortunately for Cabella, his slight frame has also worked against him and he was far-too easily muscled off the ball last season, something that he was criticised for by a significant section of the Toon faithful. However, Ian Cathro and Steve McClaren both love to develop technically-gifted footballers - and few are as naturally talented as Cabella. If they work with the Frenchman to ensure he puts on a little bit of muscle but does not lose any of his undoubted ability, then Cabella could be revitalised next season. The playmaker tore up Ligue 1 two seasons ago - scoring 14 times and contributing five assists in 36 Montpellier appearances - but he needs confidence and guidance in order to reproduce that form in England. Having already experienced a Premier League campaign, Cabella will now know what awaits him next season - and hopefully he can react accordingly. Newcastle United supporters are crying out for a creative player to dazzle them at St James' Park - and it's now time for Cabella to start producing the goods.
