10 Newcastle Stars Who Will Leave If They Are Relegated

4. Siem De Jong

Siem de Jong has made just four Premier League appearances for Newcastle United since his £6 million transfer from Ajax last summer - and, if the Magpies are relegated, he looks unlikely to add to that total. And that isn't just because there is no guarantee of Newcastle bouncing back into the top-flight any time soon, it's also due to the fact he is almost certain to leave. The six-cap Holland international is 26 and he was the captain of Ajax, winning four Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup with the club - so he won't want to spend his Wednesday nights travelling to the likes of Rotherham United and Milton Keynes Dons (no disrespect intended to those clubs). A similar fee to that which Newcastle paid for De Jong would likely satisfy the Magpies board, and De Jong could end up leaving Tyneside having made only a handful of appearances. His continued presence this season would have added an extra goal threat and creativity from midfield - and then Newcastle probably wouldn't have been in the position they find themselves in currently.
