1. Jack Wilshere

Once regarded as one of England's brightest prospects and Arsenal's most exciting players, the stock of Jack Wilshere has tumbled spectacularly over the last couple of years. Arsenal fans still rate him highly and appreciate his work rate and attitude, while many England fans wouldn't have been upset to see him in the final squad, but the player can't have too many complaints about being left out.

Constant injuries have repeatedly interrupted Wilshere's career, and he hasn't been able to pull on an England shirt since 2016. He was called up for the last set of friendlies, but once again picked up an injury and was unable to play any part in the games. He started 12 league games for Arsenal this season, contributing with one goal and three assists, but it's just not enough.

Wilshere has talent, that much is clear, but his physical fragility has consistently held him back. Unfortunately, despite a promising start to his career that saw him compared with the likes of Andres Iniesta, Wilshere will probably go down in history as a player who was always one step away from true greatness but never quite made it.
