10 One-Trick Footballing Ponies Who Made It At The Top Level
2. Antonio Valencia
Louis Van Gaal's decision to transform Antonio Valencia from a stuttering winger into one of the Premier League's most reliable full-backs was inspired (so inspired, in fact, that Jose Mourinho wants to take all the credit for it).
But the 32-year-old still essentially pulls the same trick every time he collects the ball in the final third of the pitch. He stands the opposing team's full-back up on the edge of the box, takes a brief glance at his target, then sprints down the outside and whips in a right-footed cross.
You can watch footage of Valencia until the end of time, and you will (probably) never see an instance of the Ecuador international pinging one into the mixer with his left peg, neither drifting in-field instead of heading for the byline.
He's the anti-Robben, basically.
