10 Past Rangers Signings That Seem Impossible Now

2. Ronald De Boer

Part of the Ajax team that won the 1995 UEFA Champions League, Ronald De Boer had played against Rangers in the competition. On both occasions, the Glasgow giants were blown away by the Amsterdam club's amazing mix of skill, youth and flare. By the time the new millennium rolled around, De Boer had been plying his trade in Spain with Barcelona. Winning the La Liga title, Rangers came calling in August, 2000, and the Dutchman couldn't resist linking up with Dick Advocaat. The Gers paid Barcelona £4.5 million to take Ronald De Boer from them, and it was worth every penny for the supporters. Rangers fans dearly wish days like this could return, not so much because of the money being spent, but because of the talent on display. De Boer was wonderful at Rangers, lighting up Ibrox every other week. On many occasions, it really seemed that the midfielder was a few steps ahead of his team mates mentally. It's tough to imagine this kind of player being snapped up by Mark Warburton, because that kind of cash just isn't available.
