Schneiderlin, who represented France at the World Cup this summer, tweeted: Six years of an amazing journey #saintsfc destroyed in one hour! a direct message at the clubs stance over a bid from the Gunners north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal were also credited with interest in the 24-year-old, with many Gooners viewing the former Strasbourg midfielder as an acceptable alternative to the dream signing of Sami Khedira from La Liga giants Real Madrid. It may not be a case of opportunity missed for Arsene Wenger, though, as Schneiderlin has been quoted as saying: For now, it is Southampton. I keep playing and doing my best. Hardly the words of a man looking to retire in the south-coast.
