Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players Wenger Should Have Signed

4. Morgan Schneiderlin

Despite the (expensive) boot sale Southampton were holding this summer, the defensive-minded midfielder, who has been with the Saints since 2008, remains at St Mary€™s (until January at least). Schneiderlin, who represented France at the World Cup this summer, tweeted: €œSix years of an amazing journey #saintsfc destroyed in one hour!€ a direct message at the club€™s stance over a bid from the Gunners€™ north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal were also credited with interest in the 24-year-old, with many Gooners viewing the former Strasbourg midfielder as an acceptable alternative to the dream signing of Sami Khedira from La Liga giants Real Madrid. It may not be a case of opportunity missed for Arsene Wenger, though, as Schneiderlin has been quoted as saying: €œFor now, it is Southampton. I keep playing and doing my best.€ Hardly the words of a man looking to retire in the south-coast.
