10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man City

3. Jack Rodwell

Jack Rodwell found himself in a similar position to Scott Sinclair; a promising young English midfielder who got drawn to the big money and success of Manchester City, only to find himself on the bench or in the reserves. During his five years at Everton, Rodwell was quickly tipped as a future attacking midfielder for England, in a similar mould to the likes of Paul Gascoigne. The young player seemed to thrive on the expectation and he continued to deliver top-class performances for his club. It was this bright start to his career that attracted the attention of Manchester City, who saw him as a talent for the future and an ideal addition to their squad. Although a good signing for the Manchester club, unfortunately for Rodwell, the stiff competition at The Etihad meant he was struggling to get a game. He moved to City in 2012 for £12 million but in his two seasons at the club he made just 25 appearances across all competitions. It was this lack of first team football that led to his omission from Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad, despite the England manager's willingness to select young players. Fortunately for Rodwell, unlike Sinclair he has retained his fitness and been able to move away from Manchester City. He has recently made the move to Sunderland for £10 million, surely to the delight of the player as well as the England management and fans. Hopefully he can return to the form he showed at Everton and once again get back into the England set-up. He is still just 23 so has plenty of years left to flourish, but he will be hoping to put his time at Manchester City behind him.
