10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Spurs
3. Leigh Mills
Leigh Mills joined Spurs in 2004 as a sixteen year old. The teenager joined from Swindon Town, before having made a senior appearance for the Robins, amidst interest from a host of Premier League clubs that included Everton - indeed, the Toffees had a bid of £150,000 turned down prior to him signing for Spurs. A solid central defender, Mills rose to prominence in youth football and began catching the attention of bigger clubs when he captained the England Under-16 side to victory over Wales. As a result, he was labelled one of the country's top prospects and much was expected for his future upon his arrival at White Hart Lane. Mills lasted five years at Spurs - during which time he was loaned out to both Brentford and Gillingham - but he failed to impact on the first team set-up in any way, shape or form and was released from his contract in 2009. He completely retired from professional football after that and now - still only 26 years old - he has spent the last few seasons playing for the likes of Winchester City, Eastleigh and Blackfield and Langley. He is now back at Winchester City in the Wessex Football League. For someone who was expected by some to be Spurs' captain by now, that's quite the dramatic turnaround.
