Fans were getting a little anxious last summer when Liverpool were left with just (then unreformed racist, neck biter, and disappointing goal scorer) Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as options to play up front, having finally sent Andy Carroll off to wallow in West Ham. So all the talk that Brendan Rodgers was definitely going to do something the dearth of decent, consistent strikers on the team, and that something would be Clint Dempsey. One of the few American players that have earned any respect during his time in the Premier League, Dempsey had just come off of scoring 17 goals and being voted Fulham's player of the year. So, rather understandably, the hysterical fans weren't assuaged at all by the news that the Dempsey deal had been called off. Of course, the following January we picked up Daniel Sturridge in his place, which has worked out okay for everyone so far.
