10 Players You Didn't Know Nearly Signed For AC Milan

8. David Trezeguet

A player who had scored 171 goals in 318 games for the Old Lady, and had strived hard to defeat the Milanese on so many occasions, including in the tense 2003 Champions League final, could AC Milan really persuade a player to join their ranks when he had been brainwashed to hate them with such passion for so long? The simple answer is yes. It doesn€™t matter that French striker David Trezeguet was heralded as a hero at Italian rivals Juventus - when AC Milan sounded him out about their interest five years ago, he was keen.
''When a team like Milan consider David, then it is good news for me. Milan are a great club and that confirms that my client is a valid champion.۪۪ - Antonio Caliendo, Trezeguet۪s agent, July 2009.
Trezeguet had stuck with the Turin giants even after they had been stricken by relegation following the infamous Calciopoli scandal, when it would have been so easy for a striker of his calibre to walk away from the club. So, it would have been a curious move for him to jump straight into the arms of a title rival, having built up such a rapport with the support. According to his agent, however, Trezeguet was even prepared to take a cut in order to push through a move.
''Of course he would. You can always find a solution when everyone shows good will. Milan is worth a sacrifice. David is ready to come meet the demands of his possible new club. If a similar hypothesis was made official, we would have no problems in negotiating with Milan. Leonardo and the club۪s appreciation of Trezeguet represents an undoubted encouragement to discuss things reasonably.۪۪ - Antonio Caliendo, July 2009.
In the end, a move never materialised and the 31 year old striker remained at the Stadio del Alpi for another year before signing for newly-promoted La Liga minnows Hercules. With a ground capacity of 30,000, it€™s fair to say it probably wasn€™t the move that the Frenchman€™s striker had been holding out for.
