10 Players Ian Cathro Could Bring With Him To Newcastle

3. Shkodran Mustafi

Everton had this lad on their books when he was a youngster, they're undoubtedly curing their judgement right about now... This is because the centre back has turned his career on his head and finds himself as a starter for what is now a Champions League club and a regular member in the current World Cup winners' squad. Mustafi joined Los Che only last summer for around £6 million, so Newcastle will likely have to pay double that to secure his signature. Given that he is the owner of a World Cup winner's meal after he replaced the injured Marco Reus last summer, maybe United should be breaking their bank to get him. He played 33 games in La Liga last season, scoring four goals while making eight appearances for the Germans over the last season. The 23-year-old is very much in the same vein as a Branislav Ivanovi‡. He isn't the tallest but is very strong and deceptively good on the ball, which has seen him employed at right back more than once for the German national side. He would need to be the replacement for Fabricio Coloccini in The Magpies' defence, because as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa showed, the Argentine can't play alongside someone who is equally as small as him. (Although Mike Williamson showed he can't play with someone much larger either...)
