10 Players Ian Cathro Could Bring With Him To Newcastle
4. John Souttar
Another player who has dedicated his career to Ian Cathro. The 18-year-old worked with Newcastle's new assistant manager during his time in Dundee United's youth teams. Aged 16 years and 99 days, he became the youngest ever player to play for D United while Ian was working over in Portugal. The Scotland U19 international is comfortable playing in central midfield and central defence, with the latter being one of the first areas Newcastle's new football board must improve. Souttar is good with his feet and looks to be developing into a rather powerful young man. At 18, he stands at six feet one inches which means he could grow to be the set piece threat United have been longing for over the past four years. He wouldn't be a player that would go straight into United's first XI, but having him waiting in the wings and learning from the more senior members of the squad (excluding Mike Williamson of course) would be hugely beneficial to both the player and the club in the long run. Newcastle would be wise to cash in now before some of the bigger clubs in the Premier League are made aware of this blossoming talent, and because John only has a year remaining on his current contract... He's expected to sign a new deal at Tannadice but Newcastle would surely woo him if they put in an offer.
