There are some transfers which make a supporter think what was all the fuss about? Chelsea's wrangle for Gael Kakuta, which ultimately left them with a transfer embargo, springs to mind, as does Man United's 2003 purchase of Liam Miller - but Yanga-Mbiwa must surely rank up there in terms of one of the biggest waste of times in recent histories for Newcastle United. The acquisition of Montpelliers brightest young talent in January 2013 left a bitter taste in president Louis Nicollins mouth, which have since had ramifications for the protracted transfer of Remy Cabella 18 months later (though of course that is now done, with Nicollin's disgruntled whinging put aside). Yanga-Mbiwa has produced some decent performances, such as in the miracle victory at White Hart Lane this summer, but there have been shades of Jean Alain-Boumsong in his overall play. He has looked unsure, rash, and lacking in confidence as he has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and the £8.5 million acquisition who is currently behind Mike Williamson in the pecking order must surely re-evaluate his current career trajectory.
