Hugo Lloris is one of the highly-rated goalkeepers in the world. However, this is not new information. There is a reason that the then-25 year old goalkeeper cost a fee that could rise to £11.8 million when Spurs acquired him from French side Lyon in August 2012. Lloris was the captain of the French international side when the north London side swooped for his signature, and had been awarded Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year on three separate occasions. Having impressed at Euro 2012, the Lyon goalkeeper had been tipped to sign for an established Champions League side - not a club perennially doomed to futilely fight with their north London neighbours for a crack at a Champions League qualifier. It was certainly some transfer coup on Andres-Villas Boas behalf to land the Frenchman, and it turned out to be quite a surprising day all round, as they signed Fulham front-man Clint Dempsey later that day. Lloris has proved to be by far the better acquisition, however, making over 80 appearances for the club and establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Having signed a new five-year contract in June, it looks like Lloris will be at White Hart Lane for the long haul.
''The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious. Everything is clear in my head and if Ive signed a new contract, its because I trust the club and Im sure we will progress in a positive way. - Hugo Lloris, June 2014.
