1. Alan Shearer
Mike Egerton/EMPICS SportAlan Shearer is the second player on this list to have twice rejected a move to Manchester United, and as the now-bald BBC pundit looks back at his trophy cabinet he may well feel a pang of regret for not joining the Red Devils all those years ago. The first instance of Shearer snubbing a move to Old Trafford came in 1992. The striker was about to leave Southampton and in spite of United's interest, decided to join Blackburn Rovers after growing impatient as Sir Alex Ferguson's side took time to raise the funds for his transfer. The second instance was 1996. United had finally coughed up £15 million for the England hitman, who had won the Premier League with Rovers, but so too had Newcastle United. After extended talks at Old Trafford, a last-minute meeting with Kevin Keagan persuaded persuaded Shearer to join the Mapgpies instead. In hindsight, it wasn't the worst decision in the world. Shearer became Newcastle's highest ever goalscorer and a firm fan favourite. But he didn't add to the Premier League title he won with Blackburn and his trophy cabinet remained as bare as his head. Shearer would only lift one major trophy in his 18-year playing career, and he could have had it all at Manchester United.
