Four La Ligas, four Supercopa de Espanas, two Copa del Reys, two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups. That is Brazilian right-back Dani Alves trophy haul at Barcelona since signing from Sevilla in the summer of 2008, and is exactly what he would have been sacrificing had he signed a contract on Merseyside instead. With the Brazilian wing-back having been enthused by the Reds interest eight years ago, his agent Jese Rodriguez was already putting it in the public domain that it is clear he is attracted by a move to Liverpool. With the Reds having failed to match the asking price of £8 million however, Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido was reluctant to do business.
''Were already talking big money but Sevilla dont watt to lose Daniel. He has to let us know the offer from Liverpool is the most important. Liverpool have not yet made us an offer which is acceptable. Until they meet our asking price, theres no deal. - Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido. June 2006.
The club refused to pay more than £7 million for the 23 year old, instead chucking £8.2 million at Jermaine Pennant, while Barcelona waited two years before paying £23 million for his services. With the 31 year old Alves apparently looking for a way out of Barcelona at the end of the season, Liverpool could do worse than replace the flappable Glen Johnson with the player they should have signed eight season ago.
