10 Players Sir Alex Ferguson Was Completely Wrong About

7. Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba started the early stages of his career at Manchester United as a product of the club's youth academy and graduated into the senior set-up in 2011. However, he would only make three appearances for the Red Devils and left to join Juventus, where he has since flourished into one of the world's best young midfielders. Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he let Pogba move to Italy because he felt the player had disrespected the club. The Scot once said: "It is disappointing. I don't think he showed us any respect at all, to be honest. I'm quite happy that if they carry on that way, they're probably better doing it away from us." However, there are two sides to every story and you could make the case for United disrespecting Pogba. In a game against Blackburn Rovers in December 2011, the Reds were hit by an injury crisis and were short on midfield players. Instead of deploying Pogba, Ferguson instead left him out of the side and played Park Ji Sung and right-back Rafael. This, as the story goes, was the final straw for Pogba, who knew then that he had to leave to get more playing time. Ferguson's decision to sell Pogba rather than give him more opportunities than the three he was awarded in the senior side backfired. The midfielder is arguably one of the game's best young players at present after scoring seven Serie A goals last season and has since been tipped with moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid.
