10 Players Who Stole A Living From Newcastle United

2. Xisco

Dennis Wise might think that the only reason he is hated by Newcastle fans is that he's from London, along with best bud Mike Ashley, but his high profile failures in signing the likes of Fabio Zamblera (a hugely rated Italian wonderkid who had zero impact on Tyneside) and Xisco and his general lack of class are far higher on the list than where he was born. The Xisco deal will forever go down in history with Newcastle fans as one of the straws that broke Kevin Keegan's back in his second spell as manager at Newcastle. The truth is that it wasn't the main issue - that came slightly later - and Xisco was genuinely highly rated in Spain, which somewhat justified his near £6m transfer fee. Sadly, very quickly it became clear that Xisco was badly unsuited to the Premier League at best, and was flat out terrible at worst. He quickly became seventh choice striker, behind youngster Andy Carroll even, and the club hilariously attempted to sell him after only four months, only to be thwarted by FIFA, who wouldn't allow him to be registered with three teams in a single season. Sadly for Newcastle, that proved to be the only real interest in signing him permanently for years, and Xisco stayed around for five years, making just 9 league appearances and picking up a rumoured £50,000 a week, suggesting he made close to £2.5m in wages for being utterly woeful.
