Lee Barnard came through the youth ranks at Spurs, before earning his first professional contract with the club in 2002 when he was eighteen years old. He was quite a prolific goalscorer in his time playing for the club's reserve side and it was expected that he would make an impression at first team level. He didn't, however, as he only ever made three substitute appearance for the first team - all in the Premier League - without scoring. However, in spite of that fact, he remained at the club for six years until he was nearly 24 years old. To be fair to Barnard, he did spend five different spells on loan away from the club - at Exeter City, Stevenage Borough, Leyton Orient, Northampton Town and Crewe Alexandra respectively - but they were all short terms loans (the largest number of games he ever played for any of those teams was ten) - and he spent the majority of his time at White Hart Lane offering very little.
