10 Players Who Thought They Were Bigger Than Newcastle United

2. Sam Allardyce

Not a player for Newcastle (thankfully), but a manager with the biggest unjustified ego in the history of Newcastle management. Allardyce spent his time at Newcastle with a chip on his shoulder, later insisting he'd wanted to sign Luka Modric, Branislav Ivanovic and Jagielka but the board had refused. He still maintains he was unfairly sacked at Newcastle and that the club wouldn't have been relegated under him, and also astonishingly that he had seen the club as a stepping stone to bigger things that he would undoubtedly have realised if given the chance to succeed:
€œIt ended up where I couldn€™t get that bigger or better club, so I think there must have been something in my career that stopped me. I think it was Newcastle. €œHad that been successful with Freddy Shepherd, the man who appointed me, staying on, I might have got an even bigger club than Newcastle."
Talk about your almighty what ifs.
