10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Southampton

7. Sammy Lee

Currently working as an assistant coach as part of Ronald Koeman's managerial team at Southampton, few remember that little Liverpool midfielder Lee once played for the club as well. The hard working scouser had been a product of Liverpool's youth system and played for his home town club for ten years, winning three league titles and two European cups while racking up 14 England caps. Younger fans may remember him at Bolton where he played his final games and later went on to be coach, assistant manager and finally manager. It was inbetween these two better known periods of his career that Lee managed to fit an extremely brief time at Saints. Injury had cut down his Liverpool career prematurely and Lee had found himself playing in Spain for Osasuna when Saints boss Chris Nicholl gave him a chance to return to England. Saints signed Lee on a free transfer in January 1990, but he would only play two games (both defeats) before being allowed to join Bolton. 24 years later he arrived back at the club as a coach.
