10 Players Who Could Be Axed For Newcastle's Summer Recruits
6. Papiss Cisse
Despite recapturing his goal-scoring touch last season, Cisse did nothing to help his teammates when he was banned for several matches after spitting at Jonny Evans. The club desperately lacked another natural finisher to take the pressure of Ayoze Perez, meaning Cisse's absence was costly. His 11 league goals were crucial to Newcastle's survival, however, but the Senegal striker is rumoured to have drawn attention from Turkish sides this summer - mumours that do not appear to be going away despite Steve McClaren's assertions that he is happy with the current No 9. The opportunity for the club to cash in is probably now as high as it is ever likely to be with Cisse now past his 30th birthday. Whether Cisse moves or not, his chances to start are going to reduce somewhat with the arrival of Aleksandar Mitrovic into town. The Serbian striker is a man who thrives on balls into the box, with one of his key strengths being his ability in the air, which would indicate that he should be played through the middle. Cisse is quite limited in his all-round game and showed little when playing on the right under Pardew. It's unclear the final formation that McClaren will settle on, but it does not appear that both Mitrovic and Cisse - two natural goalscorers who need to operate through the middle - would be the best pairing for each other. What's more, Newcastle are not likely to lavish £12.5 million on a new forward, only to ask him to take a seat on the bench...

University of Edinburgh graduate with a love of sport, in particular Newcastle United surprisingly enough. When I'm not shaking my head at Paul Dummett and Yoan Gouffran, I'm usually reading something or watching films of varying quality.
