10 Players Who "Could Be Like New Signings" For Newcastle Boss Steve McClaren

10. Steven Taylor

Steven Taylor has been at Newcastle United his entire career - a month-long loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers aside - and yet Steve McClaren could feasibly trot out the "like a new signing" line once the centre-back makes an appearance next season. Consistently injured throughout his career, the 29-year-old has not appeared for the Magpies since New Year's Day, when he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the 3-3 draw against Burnley. Having made just 12 appearances in all competition throughout the 2014-15 campaign, Taylor's return will give McClaren more options than just Fabricio Coloccini, Paul Dummett and Mike Williamson - or even the emergency selection of Daryl Janmaat - to play in the centre of his defence. Taylor has just a season left on his United contract so he will know a big campaign awaits him - and he could add much-needed leadership and impetus to the Magpies backline.
