5. Jermaine Jenas
Nick Potts/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesJermaine Jenas spent the bulk of his career at White Hart Lane and he was the epitome of "the Marmite player". Some fans loved him, some reviled him, but there is no doubting that he will be regretting his move away from Spurs. He was only 28 years old - the prime of a midfielder's life - when his Spurs career truly started taking a downward turn, as he was shipped out to fellow Premier League side Aston Villa for a season long loan. The spell was marked by persistent injuries and Jenas subsequently struggled to make an impact at Villa Park. He returned to Spurs and did actually reappear in the Lilywhites colours in August 2008 - in a match against West Bromwich Albion - but was again loaned out just a month later, this time to Championship side Nottingham Forest, which really put the nail in his coffin. A permanent move to Harry Redknapp's Queens Park Rangers followed in January 2013. Rangers were a Premier League club at the time and paid an undisclosed fee for the player. They were relegated that same season and Jenas spent a year playing in the Championship - and he wasn't even a guaranteed starter in the second tier. Queens Park Rangers are a top flight side again, having won promotion by the skin of their teeth in the play-off final last season, but whether or not Jenas will be a regular for them in the coming season remains to be seen. It has been a disappointing turn of events for the 21 cap man.
