10 Reasons Why History Is Not On Newcastle's Side For Relegation Fight

3. Newcastle Went Down Having Lost Their Final Game In 2008-09 To A Side Who Played In Claret And Blue

The team may be different this time around, but the colour scheme is the same. On May 24th, 2009, Newcastle headed to Birmingham to face Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season. A Damien Duff own goal proved to be the difference between the sides at Villa Park as the Magpies succumbed to a 1-0 defeat, and plummeted through the top-flight trapdoor. Just like Aston Villa, West Ham United play in claret-and-blue strips - and it is the east Londoners who are the visitors to St James' Park on the final day of this Premier League season: Sunday, May 24th. Will that colour scheme continue to be a bad omen for Newcastle United? Or can they put the past behind them?
