Having played for clubs like Ajax in the Netherlands, Celta Vigo in Spain, Marseille in France and Roma in Italy, Egyptian striker Mido joined Spurs - initially on loan - with a big reputation. He was only 21 years old at the time and had the world at his feet. He didn't play badly for Spurs - far from it, he scored twelve goals in 31 Premier League starts - but his career would head on a downward spiral after he left. He was only 24 when he joined Middlesbrough in 2007 and he did okay at the Riverside Stadium. He soon lost his place in the first team, however, and was loaned out to Wigan Athletic, Zamalek, West Ham United and Ajax. He eventually signed permanently for Zamalek - the Egyptian side he made his name at - before returning to England with Barnsley in 2012. A mere single appearance later and he left the club and retired from playing football - he was just 29. Having since managed Zamalek, he is now Director of Football at their youth academy.
