8. Don Hutchison (The Second Time)

When West Ham acquired the services of Don Hutchison for the second time - breaking our transfer record in the process - it's safe to say that many fans questioned Glenn Roeder's decision making; that wasn't the last time we did that. Already 30 at the time and heading towards the end of his playing career, the £5 million price tag did seem rather high. He failed to make a discernible impact and when an injury kept him out of most of the following two seasons, he failed to make his way back into the team as well.
