10 Strikers Who Newcastle Should Sign Instead Of Charlie Austin

9. Bas Dost

Age: 25 Club: Wolfsburg Nationality: Dutch Estimated Market Value: £15 million-£20 million League Apps (2014-15): 21 League Goals (2014-15): 16 As soon as Wolfsburg placed a fictitious £30 million price tag on the forehead of their 6ft 5 striker, Newcastle's interest in Bas Dost faded. The Dutch forward started 2015 in sublime form and scored an insane 13 goals in 10 games in all competitions and flaunted a goal-to-game ratio of 1.3 towards the beginning of March (better than Barcelona's Lionel Messi). If Newcastle were prepared to table a bid of around £15 million-£20 million then Wolfsburg - who have been criticised for their large spending - would have to consider it. The Magpies lack height up front and Dost would offer them a traditional target man who can out-muscle defenders and offer a constant presence in the air (something Newcastle haven't had since the days of Andy Carroll). Charlie Austin would just be another Aleksandar Mitrovic whereas Dost offers an entirely different option for McClaren to explore.
