10 Summer 2017 Football Transfer Sagas We're Most Excited For
4. Gianluigi Donnarumma To... Anywhere
It was impossible to narrow this down to just one club, such is the interest around this 18 year old, extraordinary talent. It's plain to see why as well. If a player is making his debut at just 16 and already looking as confident as a much more seasoned pro, any club would be interested. Who will win the race to sign Donnarumma though?
In the case of Manchester United, you would imagine that the arrival of Donnarumma would signal the end of David De Gea's time at Old Trafford. Since he's starting every week at AC Milan, it's unlikely that Donnarumma will move to a club where he's playing second fiddle to someone else. That, in turn, could open the door for De Gea finally getting his move to Real Madrid, ending their interest in Donnarumma.
However, if he wants to remain in Italy and sign for Juventus, he may have to bide his time for just one season. Gianluigi Buffon has said that next season is likely to be his last, so it would be pretty cruel for Juve to bench him for his swan song, in favour of Donnarumma. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though, a season of settling in and learning from one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the game could be perfect for such a rookie.
There won't be such complications for the Don at PSG though and he would have every right to be given the number 1 jersey straight away, if he elected to move to Paris. It would be a similar situation at Real Madrid, although Keylor Navas wouldn't be too happy about it. Wherever he ends up though, it could signal a goalkeeping domino effect of transfers across Europe.
