10 Summer Premier League Signings We Won't See The Best Of Until Next Season

6. Ederson - Manchester City

A goalkeeper was top of Pep Guardiola’s transfer wish-list this summer, after the failed Claudio Bravo experiment from last season. Ederson, a relative unknown from Benfica, was the gloveman who Guardiola turned to as he dismissed Joe Hart to West Ham United.

Slight of frame, the new City goalkeeper might need to bulk up slightly, as David de Gea did when he first arrived in England. Ederson learned the hard way the more physical nature of the Premier League, with Sadio Mane’s high-foot challenge in City’s 5-0 rout of Liverpool.

He will also learn that he won’t get as much time on the ball against high-pressing English sides as he did in Portuguese football. The 24-year-old cannot do any worse than his predecessor, but there may be some Bravo-esque gaffes along the way as he finds his feet.
