10 Things Man Utd Need To Learn From City & Liverpool
6. It Is Possible To Replace A Legend
Manchester United have currently made two attempts to replace the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. Their first effort blew up in smoke with David Moyes stuttering through a disastrous tenure at Old Trafford, but perhaps successor Louis van Gaal can take heart from the fact Liverpool have proven it is possible to replace the seemingly irreplaceable. Following an unpopular and unsuccessful era under the management of Roy Hodgson, Kop idol Kenny Dalglish returned as boss in January 2011 on a caretaker basis before taking on the job permanently in May - marking his second stint as Reds manager. The Scot led Liverpool to their first trophy in six years with victory in the League Cup in 2012, though was sacked in May that year after failing to improve the club's league standing. In came Brendan Rodgers, and though not everybody took to him at first, particularly with Liverpool finishing seventh in 2012-13, the Irishman survived calls for him to be sacked by going on to guide the Reds to a second place finish the following season, showing that you can replace a club legend successfully.
