10 Things Man Utd Need To Learn From City & Liverpool
5. No One Player Is Bigger Than The Club
This summer saw one of its biggest transfers with Luis Suarez being sold to Barcelona for £75 million. The move was the culmination of the latest controversy to blight Suarez, following his biting of Giorgio Chiellini in a World Cup match against Italy while playing for his native Uruguay. It proved to be the final straw for Liverpool's hierarchy following a series of scandals, which includes ANOTHER bite attack on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. The Reds' decision to green light Suarez's sale should serve as a lesson to United and many other top teams - no one player is bigger than the club. Last year, Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney admitted he wanted to quit the club after growing dissatisfied with being forced to play out of position. New manager Louis van Gaal is known for his flexible and versatile formations meaning Rooney may not always get his wish to play in his favoured role as striker. If he should throw another tantrum and announce his intention to leave for a third time in his career, having also done so in 2010, United could learn from Liverpool that the club must always come first.
