10 Things Man Utd Need To Learn From City & Liverpool
3. And You Don't Have To Spend Extravagantly To Achieve It Either
As Manchester United prepare to launch into a summer of spending, they could learn from Liverpool that they don't need to break the bank to bring success back to Old Trafford. The Reds were the second-lowest spenders of the teams who finished in last season's top four, spending 'only' £48 million last summer. That's slightly more than Arsenal's outlay of £42 million on Mesut Ozil but far less than Manchester City's £103 million splurge on the likes of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho and Chelsea's incredible £109 million expenditure, with the Blues bringing in the likes of Andre Schurrle and Willian. Despite this, Liverpool were still able to push City all the way in the race for the Premier League and beat Chelsea into third place. This is proof that you don't need to spend extravagantly to achieve success and, considering the United team who stuttered to a seventh place finish last season was the same one that cantered to the title the season before, it may be that the Red Devils don't need to crack open their piggy bank to get themselves back to the top.
