10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Jack Colback

7. He Was Sent Off Just SEVENTEEN Minutes Into His Senior Debut

What was supposed to be a milestone moment for Colback turned into a nightmare. The midfielder was thrown on for his Premier League bow when he replaced Steed Malbranque in the 77th minute of Sunderland's final match of the 2009/10 season against Wolves at Molineux. Within seven minutes Colback had picked up his first yellow card in the top-flight with an over-exuberant lunge on Ronald Zubar. In that instance he was granted a small mercy given it was his first taste of first-team football and it was expected that he would be prone to irrational decision making. And in injury time he was punished for another rash challenge on Zubar that earned him a red card, an early bath and the ignominy of being sent off on his debut. But what it did show us was an a individual that took to the field without fear and that is a trait Colback would hone in later years as he matured with experience into a tenacious albeit disciplined midfielder. In fact he's been booked just 16 times in all competitions for Sunderland in the four seasons since, never once receiving his marchig orders.
